How to write a winning awards entry
If you are planning to enter a business award, here are some tips to give you a head start on writing a winning entry.
- Check the deadline.
- Read the terms and conditions and any guidance provided.
- Make sure you know how to apply - there is nothing worse than finding out on the day of the deadline that you should have posted a hard copy of your entry.
- Assess the categories to make sure you can meet the criteria.
- Check whether there is a word count and stick to it.
- Read the question and answer it accurately. You may want to share some wonderful achievements but if it doesn’t help to answer the question you will be wasting your time.
- Write clearly and in plain English.
- Be honest and support your claims with evidence.
- Include relevant facts and figures, quotes and client testimonials.
- Leave enough time to work on the presentation of your entry.
- Once you are happy with your entry, ask somebody who is not involved in your organisation to read it and give constructive feedback.
- Ask at least two people to proofread your entry.
- Keep a copy of your final entry so you can remind yourself what you said.
